I have found once you embro up, use a few baby wipes or a healthy amount of hand sanitizer to get it off your hands which is critical (well for us boys at least)for the pre-race or pre-ride visit to the porta-potty. I will try the dish soap. Thanks for the post Heidi!

Great tips, I had an emergency last fall and was heading to the hospital, I was told to use cooking oil to break it up, it worked.

Always need that reminder of number 2. Chamois Cream THEN embrocation.
Never thought of washing up liquid though to get the stuff off, it will help soften that post ride shower burn that I am having to learn to love.

Thanks for the feedback Heidi.
Rapha (here) are pretty good with their returns when buying multiple sizes for sizing. She said she will buy two sizes, of the Rapha tights, for comparison, as she is still wary of paying as much for Assos and not being comfortable with that centre strap - something that may only become apparant on a long cold ride - making returning impossible.

Rapha it is.

Hey Chris,
For me, the "jump suit" construction of the Rapha winter tight was much more comfortable. That said, your lady would have to size up in the Rapha tight to accommodate her upper section. I think that the secure fit of the jump suit would probably be pretty nice for well-endowed ladies - LOTS of support to keep everything in place.
The Assos bib short front-strap is said to be MORE comfortable than traditional side straps for women with boobs, but I can neither confirm nor disprove this as I am lacking in testing apparatus in this case :). For me, it was equally comfortable to a normal bib, but with the disadvantage of showing an ugly strap in the middle when I unzipped my jersey. The Assos bib IS super comfortable, however - really beautiful fabric and construction with a cozy chamois. Nice option.

Hi Sara,
The Rapha tight is more of jump suit than a true bib, so I didn't find any problem with bulk or comfort with the layering of bib shorts underneath, even after 4 or 5 hours.
Hope that helps!

Is wearing bib shorts under bib tights...too much bib? Does that add unwanted bulk on your shoulders or around the midsection?

Heidi,

I ride in the men's version and all the things you point out are the points that I say when I recommend them to guys at my club. It's great to hear that Rapha have the women's version right too.

My wife will appreciate this review, after I bought her a pair of rapha bib shorts earlier in the year, she is now looking for tights to replace her knee warmers.

Could you let us know how do they compare to the Assos tights you reviewed a while back, especially comfort around the 'chest' (OK, erm, slightly awkward, between your boobs - with that centre strap on the Assos) - she is a C/D cup and worries it might chafe.

I have these tights (reviewed here), also in size Small, and my impression so far has been very similar to what you describe. The mesh stirrups do not bother me, but I feel the same about the rear pocket and the difficulty of tucking a baselayer in without bunching up. Otherwise these are really nice and warm, and I agree that the reflective strip is surprisingly effective. Personally I would prefer it if they offered a chamois version of these, but I understand the concept behind making it without.
