I'm not planning on Banana Belt right now, although the race plan is not quite final...
And, um, I *love* running up Terwilliger. *LOVE*
That's the best hill ever. I am big on hills as well. I used to run a lot with the Niketown club runs and Broadway to Terwilliger is one of their 4 staples so I've done it a lot.
I will let you know if I pull the trigger on Shamrock!
(PS - The Red Lizard people scare me. A LOT.:) )

Shamrock is 3/16, which is also a Banana Belt RR date. I have a sick thing for uphill, and the Shamrock 15K goes up Broadway to the top of Terwilliger. Sweet. You might also like the Red Lizard 5-miler on March 2, partly because it's a benefit for local school athletic programs who get money based on participation, so it gets a ton of HS cross country kids - you can wax nostalgic:)

I guess that didn't really answer the question. :)
I wasn't planning on it... but it's not a bad idea! It sort of depends where they fall in relation to the race schedule.

ha ha ha.
Hmmm... I did the Shamrock in 2006 and it was a lot of fun. I'd just moved here. I ended up being chased by some hairy, shirtless guys in wigs who were trying to get me to eat bacon. They were running after me with the plate screaming, "YOU KNOW YOU WANT IT!!"
The shenanigans during that race were great. I didn't train very well for it and kind of suffered, but I drank two very strong dark beers afterward and took a long nap. :) I'd like to think that even though I didn't eat the bacon, the Irish would still be proud.

More often than not I run unplugged. But on thoose days it's harder to get out the door, the ipod - and more importantly the playlist - makes all the difference for me. I like the idea of creating a timed playlist. By my calculations, if you keep upping your mileage, at this rate you'll be doing marathon training runs in April :) Are you planning on any organized runs like Shamrock or Race for the Roses? Quite the endorphin rush passing all those folks!

The vacuum is great.

It happens to me during tempo runs. Every alarm in my body is telling me something, and I need to decide which can be dismissed among the lactic acid storm. Everything else is a blur until cooldown, then everything shifts back to focus. Back to reality.

You're pretty fast yourself there. :-)

I'm listening to Beirut too. But in the car. I had not thought of it as a running song - I could see how it would dream you through miles.
