Love For Sale. (Pinarello, Batavus, LeMond, Specialized Stumpjumper!)

Ok, boys and girls – it’s the Grit & Glimmer big bike blowout. I’m letting go of four of my bikes and, though it breaks my heart to do it, the time has come.

All of these bikes are being sold simply because they are not being ridden. (If you ask me, that’s the most horrible fate a bike can suffer!!)

Get More Info: If you’re interested in any of these rides, check out the Flickr sets for them and email us at with questions, etc.  Sal will be handling most of the logistics of the sales, so you will probably be communicating with him:).

Shipping/Pick-Up Options: I will consider shipping any of these except for the Batavus – that bitch is HEAVY. Buyer pays shipping costs plus a small packing fee (I have to bribe the Sicilian to do this for me). Local pick-up is ideal. I live in close-in SE Portland.

Payment Options: I love cash. I will accept personal checks from people I know VERY well. I will also accept Paypal payments, but the buyer will need to add 5% to sale price to cover fees.

Terms: This is a first-come-first-served dealio. We are in town all week and should be fairly easy to connect with. First person to show up with cash/payment/tickets to Hawaii gets the bike. We unfortunately don’t have time to deal with holding them for anyone, no matter how much we love you.

1999 Pinarello Surprise (54) – $700

This is “Nonna”. My first real bike as an adult. I wrote about her here. She was featured in the lede photo for my opening Oregonian column:

Nonna was purchased over the internets in 2001 (she was new old-stock) from She has been lovingly ridden, lightly raced and well maintained by the house wrench. She will make a real nice commuter or recreational road bike for the right person.

Check the Flickr gallery for a complete set of images.

These are her specs:

1999 Pinarello Surprise 54cm (Tubing 7005 T6)
Pinarello Vela carbon fork

** Nonna is a sweet old lady and has been with me for a very long time. She’s got some wear and tear, but I have tried to document everything in the Flickr set.

Batavus Old Dutch – $500

The most lovely Dutch bike! I received the Batavus as a birthday present in 2007 (when I asked for a BMX bike… AHEM). It was purchased new from Veloce Cycles. These retail for $750 new and this particular bike has hardly been ridden at all (this explains a little bit about why). It’s a true tragedy. Take Baby home and set her free! She has a few scratches which are detailed in the photos.

Check the Flickr Gallery for complete set of photos.

I wrote about the Bahhhty (my nickname for her) here.

This page contains full information on her.

LeMond Poprad (52) – $550 SOLD!

This was my first ‘cross bike, purchased at Palo Alto Bicycles in 2006 (it’s an ’05) and raced for 1.25 seasons :). As you can see, he’s been very well loved. Since retiring from the racing scene, it’s been used primarily as a commuter and long-distance ride. The steel frame delivers a sweet ride and I have taken this bike on 127 mile rando rides. It currently has a nearly-new Ultegra compact crank (which comes with a new bottom bracket) on it that we added in 2008 (it hasn’t seen much action since then), which makes for easy climbin’.

It also has a brand new FSA Orbit headset that we installed in August 2010.

Check the Flickr gallery for a complete set of images.

These bikes have abnormally long top tubes, so it’s bigger than it sounds. ETT is really about 54.

Carrying princess over some fallen logs.Specialized HT 26″ Stumpjumper Comp (17) Black/Blue – $1000: SOLD!!

Last but not least, my HT mountain bike. Purchased in 2008, ridden lightly and raced in a couple short track endeavors, this bike is in super great shape. The only reason I’m selling it is because I got a significant upgrade as part of my agreement with the Specialized Trail Crew this year.

I bought this bike from River City Bicycles and the fork has been rebuilt (by them) once.
