Love that New Bike Smell.

Screw cars.  That new-car smell wears off and those stinky yellow trees are kind of annoying, dontcha think?

Spring is here – time for a set of new wheels.  Human-powered pedal style!

I get a ton of questions from friends, blog readers, Oregonian readers, and general random strangers about how to go about buying a new bike.  Last Sunday I laid down the basics in the Outdoors section of the O.

The package is targeted toward “fitness riders” and people just getting into cycling longer distances, so racers – you can skip this one.  You know more than I do anyway.

But if you’re just dipping your toes into the Big World of Cycling, this short piece could save you a little heartache.

Check it out.

P.S. Due to the space limitations associated with print media, it doesn’t cover tips for buying used bikes.  There’s definitely a trick to that, too – and hopefully we’ll have a package out about that real soon.
