Being 'slow' is far safer than 'racing across intersections'. Here in Copenhagen it's Style Over Speed. We look good and we save lives with our average collective speed of 15.3 km/h - without even trying. :-)

Ah yes, the Euro bike riding hotties.... Fresh back from Italy I am.
We saw some ladies pedaling in stilleto heels, crusing over cobbles like it was nothing.

Hey, glad to hear you finally got your Batavus!
As for chic, there's a notable difference between the very cool photos and the typical commuters that I see. No ugly helmet! Helmets are preserving your smarts, but they don't make you pretty.

Absolutely... Copenhagen Chic is the second link in the entry. It drove my frenzy to its final frothiness!

I agree about the challenge of Portlandia, but now I'm determined to make it work. Besides, hauling that thing up the 5 steps out of my basement and the 10 steps into my office building is a mini-upper body workout I should be thankful for!

The Batavus (and similar bikes) are likely far more suited to the flat bikeways of Copenhagen than the less-segregated and more-challenging roadways of Portlandia. That said, your new bike is uber-cool. Can't wait to see pics.

Ha ha ha.
Adria, that made me laugh out loud.
I tried to have my boyfriend get a shot, but he was being cranky yesterday :).
Next time I rock the Batavus I will be sure to provide photographic evidence for review.
